What Are Telomeres?

Described as shoelace caps at the end of your chromosomes that helps protect your DNA from damage.  Many consider this to be a key driver in how we age over time.  These sequence of genes tend to be longer the younger we are, and over time get shorter as we age.

Those who have longer telomeres, tend to be more youthful and have greater protection from aging.  Having longer telomeres allows you to feel more youthful and helps prevent the breaking down of the body that comes with aging.  Which includes keeping you safe from chronic diseases such as cancer and accelerated skin aging.

When it comes to our health, we all know that it’s better to be proactive than reactive.  Whether you are getting tests done for blood sugar or blood pressure, we get it done to prevent anything major from happening. So why isn’t this

same approach taken when it comes to our telomeres?  Especially when research has shown we can have a positive impact on the length of our telomeres.

In this TeloYears review, I will be breaking down why it’s important for everyone to be a bit more proactive when it comes to the health of their telomeres.  Also, how it is possible to lengthen your telomeres and thus improve the way you age.

How Does TeloYears Genetic Testing Work?

With a single drop of blood, you can learn your cellular age based on your average telomere length (ATL). When first making your order for your TeloYears genetic test kit, you will need to fill out your contact information along with answering some questions.  A doctor will then review your information and make an order to have your genetic test kit sent to your home.

You should receive the kit within a week with all the necessary tools to provide your sample with. After proving your sample, you can mail it back with a pre-paid package in which you should receive your report via mail 3-4 weeks after TeloYears have received your sample package.  All this can be done in the comfort of your home.

I was disappointed with the unprofessionalism of the company. It took them weeks even to admit they got the sample, which I mailed the same day I received the kit. Then they claimed the sample was too degraded to use and said: 1) I didn’t mail it back soon enough after drawing the blood. In fact, the mailman picked up my sample 27 minutes after it was drawn. 2) It was held too long in too warm conditions. As I took the test in early February, this seems like just another excuse. I mailed a new sample and, after six weeks, they finally gave me my results.

Hi, This is very interesting as I have been interested in healthy living/lifestyles for a long time and have never heard of Telomeres! Are you aware if MD’s are using this test? It seems that it would be a useful diagnostic and planning tool for them. I appreciate the information on how to increase telomeres without taking the test.

    Ralph - July 24, 2017

Hey Janet!  Based on the research I’ve gathered, I don’t think too many are testing for this with patients. Being that this type of research is in it’s infancy, I’m looking forward to see where it goes.  I think it would be very useful information to have for those looking to make lifestyle changes.

I love that I came across this content. I have done quite a bit of research on telomeres, but did not realize that there was an at home kit to test them yourself. This is exciting news! It’s ridiculous that the doctor’s office can’t or won’t do it. And it’s ridiculous that my doctor doesn’t even want to entertain the idea of telomere length. I think there is real science behind it and I appreciate your complete information on this topic. I am considering ordering a kit now.

Hey Dani!  I’m glad you enjoyed the read.  I know that research is in it’s infancy when it comes to telomeres and how it relates to aging, but I am really interested to see where it goes.  I just provided my sample and am really looking forward to my results.  I plan on updating my review as soon as I get it.  So definitely be on the watch. Thanks for your comment.

I hate to be negative, however I can also see this test just being another source of income for centers or medical firms. That being said, the science behind it is certainly useful so I’ll give the benefit of the doubt. Do you have other sources that back up these claims? I would love to immerse myself into this, it would be a great experiment to get another opinion on it from my Doctor

    Ralph - July 17, 2017

Hi Joe!  I really appreciate your comment about this.  I wouldn’t put it past them as everything seems to be a source of income when it comes to the health industry. As someone that is into health and fitness, I try to look at is as a way to learn more about how to improve my health through science.  I plan on writing more articles about this subject as I continue to research this.  I really have a strong interest in this as it evolves more, so definitely stay tuned.

Jacqueline Cobb - July 17, 2017

hi my name is Jackie and I’m here to tell you that your website is a learning experience I never knew about the Teloyears test and I was impressed with your site so the longer I live my cell could be twice the age I am wow I never knew that so when I get the test that will be the longest 3-4 week to me because I would be anxious to find out very interesting.you mentioned that excersing would help that good to know but will it slow the cells down or improve them boy have I got a lot of questions and I’m sorry if I got carry away but your site is very interesting you know when women here about something that will slow aging down we all on that just some blood test I like that you can do it yourself in your home is pretty cool just order the test. I’m keep excersing and doing the ones I like and keep drinking my water like you said this has been a very learning site and I thank you for the much needed information .

    Ralph - July 17, 2017

You’re welcome Jacqueline, and I’m glad I could provide some insight.  We all know how important it is to eat healthy and exercise on a regular basis, but we tend to ignore the importance of it until something major happens.  What I like about tests like teloyears is, you get to see where you are in terms of your cellular age. Thus causing people to be more proactive when it comes to improving their health.  I just think it’s important to know so you have an idea of what you need to do going forward.  Thanks for your comment Jacqueline.

Max - July 17, 2017

This is very interesting. It is confusing to understand unless doing more research into how your cellular years can be older than your actual age. Can this give an estimate on how long you will live as well? It really is important to be proactive than reactive, but how important is understanding teloyears when it comes to our health?

    Ralph - July 17, 2017

Hey Max.  It is definitely a lot of information to take in, but like you said, very interesting.  But just like when we get our blood pressure and cholesterol levels checked, we never think to get something like our cells checked.  I’m sure it has to do with many people not being aware of how important it is to our health.  I am really looking forward to see where this type of research goes as far as improving one’s fitness and health.  To answer your questions about term of life, unfortunately this type of test can’t do that.  I think it’s another tool to help indicate where you are in terms of your health. Which is something I think everyone should be more proactive about.

Jason - July 16, 2017

Hi!! Great content. I’d love to know where my telomeres stand in comparison to my peers. One question though, once we know where we stand relative to our age is there anything we can do to slow or alter the length? How does diet and exercise impact this aging process? Just looking for the fountain of youth! Thanks!!

    Ralph - July 17, 2017

Hi Jason!  You should definitely test yourself to see where you stand.  If you are someone that has shortened telomeres, you can do a few things as stated in the article, like exercise, reduce your stress levels, and drink enough water.  These are just a few things that you could do and re-test to make sure you are getting results. Thanks for your comment.

Jordan - July 16, 2017

This is pretty eye opening as I didn’t even know about this until now. It’s a simple thing that everyone can and should do. It’s pretty shocking the science behind all this and even more shocking how many people do not know about this. I think it needs to be made more aware and people should be using these kits more regularly.

Are you able to use the test kit multiple times or is it a one time thing?

    Ralph - July 17, 2017

Hey Jordan!  I agree.  I definitely think we should be learning more about our cells and how they could help us when it comes to our health.  I really think this whole cell monitoring is in it’s infancy since privacy is something that many people worry about. But it will be interesting to see where this goes as I think it could be very helpful when it comes to fitness and health.
