P90X By BeachBody Workout Review – Does It Really Work?

I could remember when I first tried out the P90X workout program years ago, I didn’t have much experience in the fitness industry. Although I considered myself in decent shape, I would always look for ways to get myself in even better shape.

So when I heard about P90x, I said to myself, I definitely gotta see what all the hype was about. Even though at the time I had a gym membership, I didn’t always go as much as I needed to. So P90X seemed like the perfect home workout program for me.

Which lead me to writing this P90X by beachbody workout review. I plan on answering the question of does it really work. Regardless of if you are a beginner or not, when you should be able to find some answers to your questions in this review.

Does P90X Help You Build Muscle? – What To Expect

If you’re like me, then you’ve probably purchased the program for two reasons. The first reason is obviously to help get yourself in amazing shape, and the other is build muscle to get that nice toned look.

Now before I get into answering both questions, let me quickly breakdown what building muscles is all about. In order to build muscle, you have to tear enough muscle fibers in your body.

Then by allowing it to heal with rest, letting your muscles build back up which will help develop bigger muscles. The best way to tear those muscle fibers is by adding enough resistance that will put enough stress on your muscles.

So when it comes to the P90X workout program, if you are looking to burn fat and build muscle, then you’ve chose the right program. Now don’t expect to come out looking like a bodybuilder, but you should be able to develop nice lean muscle after completing program.

The equipment that is required for this program are weights or resistance bands. A pullup bar or door attachment for your bands. You will also need a yoga mat for when you find yourself doing the floor exercises.

To go along with your workout program, you will also be given a meal plan to complement your workout routine. This will help ensure that you get the best results using habits that is necessary to get those results.

Meet Your Trainer

Some would say that Tony Horton is the face of the beachbody program. When you think of workout programs, Tony is definitely on the list of top names that immediately come to mind. He has both the energy and knowledge to get you results.

I think one of the most amazing things about Tony is the the fact that he is pushing 60 years of age, and is in amazing shape. He would put most 30 or 40 years olds to shame. So he is a great person to model when it comes to transforming your body.

Recommended Fitness Level

P90X is considered an advanced workout program. So if you are someone that is just starting out with exercising, you may want to start off with something less intense.

Beachbody has other programs like, core de force, 21 day fix, shift shop, and many others that may be less intense, but good enough to get you great results.

Now if you’re someone that loves a challenge, P90X does have modifications that will help you progress through the program. You can perform these modified moves until you feel confident enough about performing the more advanced moves.

The only thing I like to caution is if you do choose to try this program out, make sure you go at your own pace. Being safe should always be the main goal when it comes to any intense workout. It’s ok if you’re not able to pick up the moves right away. Just take your time.

Duration of Workout

This is a 90 day program where each workout lasts anywhere from 45-60 minutes. There are also some core workouts that are about 30 minutes, but the main workouts are between 45-60 minutes.

I’m a huge fan of programs that are at least 90 days as they increase the chances of success long term. Sticking to a program for 90 days requires you to be both discipline and consistent while trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Nutrition Guide

If you’re looking for a very basic meal plan to go with your workout, then the P90X Portion plan is as basic as it gets. It’s a very simple meal plan you can follow right along with your workout program.

There were some questions regarding 21 day fix meal plan, and if it could be used as a substitute to the portion plan. Although it is recommend that you stick to the portion plan, you can go with 21 day fix and still be fine.

Track Your Progress

You usually get a transformation tracker that comes along with any workout program by beachbody, but with P90X you don’t get one. They do however include a worksheet and a fitness test to help you record your performance as you go through the program.

For example: record the amount of pushups you can do within a minute before starting the program, then record the amount done after completing the program. This is a great way to see how much stronger you’ve gotten each day you workout.

What you could also do though is use a sheet from one of their other programs and use it to track your progress.

P90X By BeachBody On Demand?

Back when P90X first came out, it was only available as a dvd. But thanks to technology, you can now get your favorite Tony Horton workouts on demand. Meaning you can get access to over 600 workout videos as a member of beachbody.

With Beachbody On Demand, you get access to all your favorite workouts and trainers with just a push a button. No longer do you have to worry about losing one of you dvd’s and not being able to workout.

You can access all your workouts on almost any device as long as you have good internet connection. Now if you enjoy having the physical workout in your hand to control, beachbody still allows you to purchase dvds on their site.

Beachbody on demand just makes it easier to access all of their programs.

So if you’re interested in trying out beachbody on demand, they offer a risk free 30 day trial to see if it is something that you would like. This is a great option for anyone interested in trying it before you buy it.

Is P90X Worth The Pain?

Even after all these years, when it comes to elite workout programs, there’s not many out there that compete with P90X. not only are you getting a world class workout, but you’re getting a system that is designed to help you get the best results.

A big reason so many people fail to get the results they are looking for is due to motivation and boredom. With this program, you don’t have to worry about that. Tony gives you the kick in the butt that’s needed in order to be successful.

And don’t worry about not being able to master the workout right away. As mentioned earlier, there is a modification to the workout that you can choose to use as you build up your fitness level.

My recommendation for anyone looking to get results is, complete the 90 day program, and then move on to another program. And instead of ordering dvds, beachbody on demand lets you move on to other programs with ease.

Sweet review. I laugh when I see reviews of P90X because I know how much hard work it requires. I have not done any P90X stuff, but know that it works because I have friends that have had incredible results from it. I like seeing a review about this still because even though it has been out for a while that means it is a quality workout that has stood the test of time.

Great review.

This was a very thorough and beneficial review of P90X. Being someone who has always been very gym oriented and focused on building a strong, lean body P90X has always been something I was interested. This review was very helpful to me and I plan on using P90X to supplement my gym workouts.

Did you find you gained a lot of muscle using p90X or was it mostly to tone your body?

    I’m glad you were able to find this review helpful gavin! When I first started with the P90X program, I found that I was able to burn quite a bit of fat and build some decent muscle gain which I noticed helped tone up my body. Just don’t expect to bulk up with this program. Thanks for commenting.
