In today’s world, we want everything now. Money, relationship, and better health. So when it comes to losing weight, we want results as quickly as possible.
Enter the Keto Diet. But is the keto diet good or bad for you?
With any diet plan you’re considering trying, this is a great question to ask.
But before answering, it’s important to understand that what works for one person, doesn’t necessarily always work for another.
Getting results is about being consistent and disciplined. Unfortunately, these two things is what many people struggle with on a daily basis.
Which is why I like weight loss programs like Noom. They focus on helping you create better eating habits for more sustainable results.
So if you’re thinking about trying the keto diet, there are a few things you need to know. But first...
What Is The Keto Diet Plan
Without getting all scientific with how the keto diet works, I will break it down in very plain simple.
A diet that was created to help children who had epilepsy, is now one of the top fad diets for weight loss.
The keto diet is basically a high fat and low carb diet. The basic goal of this diet is to have the body burn fat instead of carbs.
A diet that helps burn fat!...I mean, who wouldn’t want that diet right?
Tons of people apparently. Being that carbs contain high amounts of calories, it only makes sense to reduce it to improve your chances of losing weight.
Although this is true, it doesn’t mean that it may be good for you.
The Myth That Carbs Are Bad For You
The myth that carbs are bad for you have been going on for years now.
I mentioned this earlier, but the reason for this is, carbs tend to have more calories than nutrients like fat and protein.
So a quick solution to weight loss is to cut out carbs, or at the very least reduce it.
Many fad diets have run with this theory because it is something that can easily be implemented. Cut out carbs and you’ll get results.
But the thing is, carbs are good for you as long as they are the HEALTHY kind. And what I mean by healthy is, carbs that are not processed or refined.
You see, carbs provide your body the energy it needs to help get through the day.
If you want to reduce carbs that’s fine, just make sure you’re getting enough for your body to function properly.
It’s important that you are managing your diet, and if you can, speak with a professional.
That’s because everyone is different, so speaking with someone about a diet customized for you can make all the difference.
Even if you can join a weight loss program, that would help out big time.
If you are having trouble finding one, I would recommend you try the Noom Program. They guide you on which foods are good for your diet.
Pros and Cons Of The Keto Diet Plan
When making any decision that could affect your health, it helps to know the pros and cons. So below I plan on providing you with them to help you in your decision making process.
- You can lose weight on this diet
- It reduces insulin levels
- You’ll consume less sugar
- Hard to sustain
- Short term fix
- May consume unhealthy fats
- Potential to consume not enough fiber
Pros and Cons Summary - Is it possible to lose weight with the keto diet? If you’re consistent and discipline, then yes.
But the question is, is it good for you? Yes you’ll consume less sugar, but a diet like this can be difficult to sustain.
And with most diets, it’s a short term fix. Once you’re off the diet, you will gain the weight right back.
You also have the potential to consume a lot of unhealthy fats since it’s a high fat diet.
Lose Weight Eating More Food
I’m sure that sounds unrealistic, but it is possible. Remember, losing weight comes down to burning more calories than you consume.
Of course there are other factors that contribute to weight loss struggles. But to keep it simple, it really does come down to simple math.
For example, let’s say a high performing athlete consumes 4000 calories a day.
As long as they can burn more than 4000 calories in a day, they will lose weight.
Now the goal for you wont be to consume that much calories in a day, but you want to consume foods that will fill you up.
By focusing on calorie density foods like fruits and vegetables, you can consume more food and still lose weight.
What I mean by calorie density is, 1 cup of fruits caries less calories than a cup of chocolate. This will allow you to fill your belly without all the extra calories.
Noom also has a green foods list that helps you figure out which foods are good for your diet.
Instead of putting a bandaid on your diet, why not attack the source of your weight loss struggles.
Many people think losing weight is physical, but forget the mental part as well.
Of course exercise and diet will always be important factors when it comes to weight loss.
But it’s important to be aware of barriers like stress, depression, and anxiety which can all be factors as well.
This can be a big reason why you may not be seeing results.
That’s why I recommend weight loss programs like Noom, which focus on the mental aspect of losing weight.
They give you all the necessary tools to make sure you are given the best chance to succeed.
