How To Burn Calories While Sitting

When it comes to burning fat and losing weight, controlling your calorie consumption is key to reaching your fitness goals.  Many people these days have jobs where they sit down the majority of the time, so it may be difficult to burn off those calories to reach their goals.  

In this article, I will give you a few tips on how to burn calories while sitting.  Whether you are at work or at home, there are ways to help you burn more calories. Now this is not a reason to go and sit down all day and do nothing, but this is to help you find ways to burn more calories even if the majority of your day consists of sitting.

Workout In The Morning

If you are looking to get that early morning boost to your day, there’s no better way to do that than by working out early in the morning before you go to work. Studies have shown that getting an early morning workout can help enhance your metabolism which we all know is important to burning calories.  

If you can speed up your metabolism, this will allow your body to burn more calories throughout the day.  So even if you are sitting down for much of the day, working out in the morning is going to make sure you body is working more efficiently.

Make Sure To Eat Throughout The Day

The great thing about working out early in the morning, is it gives you a reason to make sure you have some breakfast.  When people say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, it is said for a reason.  

The problem with skipping out on breakfast is, it causes your metabolism to slow down so that it may conserve the energy it does have for your body to function regularly.  So when your metabolism slows down, you burn off less calories, thus making it more difficult to reach your fitness goals.  

Not only that, by skipping out on breakfast, come lunch time, you will tend to eat larger meals than necessary. The trick to having your metabolism work as efficiently as possible, is by making sure you are eating controlled portioned meals throughout the day, with snacks in between.  

This will make sure your metabolism is running at peak performance. Make sure whatever you are eating is healthy of course.  One way to do that is by planning out your meals for the week.

Drink Cold Water

Drinking ice cold water is an excellent way to have the body burn more calories.  Since the body has to use up energy to help warm up the body from drinking cold water, those are calories being burned right there.  

Keep in mind that the amount of calories that are burned drinking a cold glass of water is relatively small, but the more you drink, the more you burn.  Of course you shouldn’t rely on drinking water alone to help you burn off those calories, but this is a great way to burn off calories while sitting down.  

Plus, it gives you a good reason to get up since you will have to use the bathroom often depending on how much water you drink.

Build Muscle

If you have read any of my other articles, building muscle is probably one of my favorite ways to burn calories. The reason for this is, when you have built up decent amount of muscle mass for your body type, it puts your body on auto-burn.  

Muscles require a lot of energy to maintain its mass, so the more energy that is being used to maintain those beautifully sculpted muscle of yours, the more calories that are being burned. So regardless if you are sleeping, sitting down at work or on the couch, your body is working hard to make sure those muscles are fed.

Now you don’t need to go ahead and look like the incredible hulk, just building enough muscle for your body type is enough to get those calories burning.  

Make Sure To Get Proper Rest

We all know how important rest is, but very few actually get the rest needed for the body to function properly. Dealing with stress at work can be reason enough to not get a good night’s rest, but if you are serious about getting those results, then getting that proper rest is important.  

Usually when I have trouble getting enough rest throughout the night, I usually drink chamomile tea an hour before heading to bed.  I found that it helps me sleep like a baby with very few interruptions.  You should definitely give it a try if you find yourself struggling to get enough rest throughout the night.

Final Thoughts

Most people have jobs where they sit down all day, so trying to reach your fitness goals can be quite difficult. So finding ways to help speed up your metabolism which will then help your burn off more calories is key to reaching your goals.  

I will also state again, this should not give you reason to now skip out on exercise, especially since one of my tips is building muscle.  If you do the necessary work when you have time to actually be active, it will make the work easier for when you’re sitting down being inactive.
