Noom Coach vs Weight Watchers – Which One Works?

Which Program Gets You The Best Results?

Trying to decide which weight loss program can be hassle. Not knowing if it will be the program that finally gets you the results you’re looking for can make you hesitant to try.

Two weight loss programs I plan on talking about in this article, both offer effective ways to help you lose weight. Noom Coach vs Weight Watchers. But which one would work best for you?

To answer that question, you first have to understand your habits when it comes to diet and exercise. Then after you figure that out, it’s important to compare each program based on those habits.

Below I compare each program and break down what makes each program different. Because although we know both are geared to helping you lose weight, each program offers a different way in which they go about doing that.

Key Differences Between Noom and Weight Watchers

Maybe one of the biggest differences between both weight loss programs is the name recognition. Noom was founded in 2008, and Weight Watchers started in 1963. So weight watchers no doubt has the experience when it comes to helping people lose weight.

Although this is the case, I wouldn’t yet count out Noom as they are nicely building a name for themselves in the health and fitness industry.

Another thing I would say makes each program unique when comparing the two, is the way they go about counting calories.

Weight watchers uses a point system that makes counting calories easy. Noom keeps it simple by using regular calories to help you understand what you are putting into your body.

Noom also makes the use of a personal coach a priority, whereas weight watchers has that as an option but at a much higher cost. I plan on getting into the cost of both programs later in this article.

Which Program Offers Better Support?

Noom – when it come to the noom coach weight loss program, regardless of which membership option you choose, you get access to your own personal coach.

For many, having this luxury can be the difference between getting results or not. Knowing that you have someone that is knowledgeable holding you accountable for your actions.

And the best part about having a personal coach is that you have access to this person 24/7. So whenever you have a question about a particular subject regarding your health, you have a coach available to you.

Weight Watchers – the kind of support you get from this program depends on which membership package you select. So you get to select which type of support would work best for you.

But when it comes to support, weight watchers provides a variety of options for your health and fitness needs. Not only can you get access to live group meetings and personal coaches, but you have this support 24/7.

So whether you’re looking for online support, or live support, you have the option to choose what best fits your needs.

Advantage: tie

Which Program Is Easier To Use?

Noom – everything you do when it comes to noom coach will pretty much be done with your phone. Logging your diet and exercise, reading articles, and most importantly, staying in touch with your personal coach.

Noom makes logging and tracking your data simple with their free app. Within their food database, you have access to a wide range of food choices with calorie amounts next to each of them.

The foods are also color coded so you have an idea of which foods are good for your weight loss goals or not. This will make managing your calorie intake much easier as you progress through the program.

Weight Watchers – just like the noom program, weight watchers allows you to access everything from your phone. It also has an app that even allows you to sync it to any fitness trackers you may have.

So you can track and log all your diet and fitness needs with ease. And if you choose the coaching package, you will get access to unlimited 1 on 1 phone sessions which can be a big help for those that need it.

If the online method isn’t enough to improve your weight loss success, weight watchers also has live group meetings you can attend where you speak to other members. This will allow you to discuss any obstacles you may be going through.

Advantage: Tie

Tracking Calories

Noom – There’s nothing complicated when it comes to how Noom tracks your calories when logging your meals. Not only do they break the calories down by each meal you eat, but they also break it down by food item.

For those that struggle with what to make on a daily basis, noom also provides you with healthy recipes to make managing your diet simple.

Each food item or meal has the calorie amount, along with color labels to help keep you aware of the food choices you’re making whether healthy or not. Feedback is also provided based on your choices, which will hold you accountable along the way.

Weight Watchers – uses a “smartpoints” system where the goal is to accumulate the lowest amount of points as possible when consuming your meals. Each food item or meal is assigned points based on how healthy it is.

Healthy foods are assigned lower points, whereas unhealthy food items are higher. With their program, you are given a point budget. This budget is based on calories goals, so it’s important to stay under that dietary budget.

Weight watchers has made some adjustments to their system by calling it the freestyle program. There have been a lot of debate as to whether it is effective or not due to its zero points foods system. I plan on going into more detail about in in my quick review.

Advantage: Noom

Cost of Each Program

Noom – noom does offer a free app that allows you to log your meals and activity. But if you’re looking to get access to a personal coach, then there are 3 different subscriptions you can choose.

You can go with the monthly subscription that will cost you $59 per month. The 2 month subscription which costs $49.50 per month, and the 4 month subscription which costs $32.50 per month.

Regardless of which program you choose, you get access to a personal coach, unless you just go with the free option which is just using the app. Noom does offer a 14 day free trial for those looking to just try it out before fully committing to the program and figuring out if noom is worth it or not.

Weight Watchers – there are 3 different packages for you to choose from depending on the type of service you want. The available packages are:

  • Online Plus – $3.99/week
  • Meetings – $7.99/week
  • Coaching – $12.69/week

Each program is month to month, so you can cancel the program at anytime so that it doesn’t auto renew for the next month.

Having a variety of options lets you control the level of support you think you will need to be successful with your weight loss goals.

Advantage: Noom

Final Verdict: And The Winner Is…

…Noom Coach, but barely

Although weight watchers has the name recognition in the health industry, Noom has the personal touch that I think is important to one’s success.

What I mean by that is, regardless of which program you choose, noom gives you access to a personal coach. Yes weight watchers offers a package where you can get a personal coach, but it comes at much higher cost to the user.

Now weight watchers does have the option to attend weight loss meetings, but life can be so busy, that you may find yourself not having time to attend them.

That’s why it’s important to have that person guiding you from wherever you are, and noom has that at a very affordable price.

When it comes to technology, both programs give you the tools to be successful. But sometimes losing weight is more than just healthy eating and daily exercise. Sometimes it takes that person holding you accountable.

Which is why I feel that having a coach so important. And since both a personal trainer and nutritionist can be expensive, the noom weight loss program provides you with just that without have to break the bank for it.

Noom Coaching: A Quick Review

PROS

  • Informative articles to educate users about health
  • Challenges to make sure you maintain healthy habits
  • Daily food logging with feedback
  • Protected by HIPAA Laws
  • Calorie budget tracker
  • Built-in pedometer to track steps
  • In-app messaging with your coaching team
  • 14-Day Free Trial

CONS

  • Some of the tools provided can be found online for free
  • When it comes to weight loss, you’re not learning anything you didn’t know already

The noom weight loss program tries to take a different approach when it comes to helping people lose weight. Unlike most weight loss programs where they just try to help you manage diet and exercise, noom tries to go a bit deeper.

By helping you attack both the mental and emotional barriers that can slow down your progress. Sometimes it’s more than just what you’re eating, it can be your thoughts and unknown triggers that are causing you not to see results.

With the use of technology, noom provides you with the tools along with the help of a personal coach to help guide you to successful weight loss.

By helping you eliminate poor habits, and creating new ones for sustained long term success. Because like most diets, they may work while on it, but once you’re done with it, you’re back to where you started.

The goal of noom is to make sure the weight not only comes off, but stays off as well. And that can only be done by understanding what is causing you to struggle with your weight in the first place…Read Full Review.

Weight Watchers: A Quick Review

PROS

  • Can track food and activity with the weight watcher app
  • Uses a point system that makes counting calories very simple
  • Weekly group meetings available to members
  • Can connect with other members for support 24/7
  • Weekly private weigh ins for accountability
  • Dedicated coach along with 1 on 1 phone sessions
  • Get personalized action plans to fit your needs
  • Receive guides and printed materials

CONS

  • Many complaints about the changing of the point system to freestyle system
  • Concern over long term success of weight loss program
  • Some users have an issue with “Zero points food”

If counting calories seems like a tedious process for you, then weight watchers may be a program you want to try. They use a smartpoint tracker that makes counting your calories simpler.

Instead of using calories, they use points to identify if a particular food item is healthy for you or not. The way the system works is, you are given a budget on the amount of points you’re allowed to consume each day.

So the healthier the food you select, the lower the points you add to your budget. The more unhealthy your food item is, the more points that is added to your budget.

Many users found this system very effective and were pleased with the results. But weight watchers implemented a new program called zero food points where healthy food items added no points to your diet budget.

Many people found themselves gaining weight since this incentivised many to eat more, thus adding more calories. If you consume more calories than you burn, you will gain weight.

The solution to this is to do the opposite, which is burn more calories than you consume. This requires you to be active, which is what many people were failing to do when on this new program.

What Makes Online Weight Loss Programs So Effective

Even though losing weight is as simple as burning more calories, which comes from daily exercise and healthy eating, it’s the actual process that many struggle with.

Being part of an effective weight loss program can be exactly what you’re looking for. Not only do they understand what it takes to lose weight, but they provide for you a system that can help you form better habits.

Unlike fad diets where they try to restrict many foods that are good for you, rarely do they ever get to the root of your weight issues. So when you’re done with the diet, you find yourself gaining the weight right back.

This is because you haven’t trained yourself to both mentally and physically make better health choices. That’s why it’s important to find a weight loss program that focuses on providing you with long term results, not just short term.

Final Thoughts

When deciding which weight loss program will help get you the best results, it helps to understand what your strength and weaknesses are. For some, a diet change and being active is all that is needed.

But for others, it can be more than that. Understanding what barriers are holding you back from getting the results you’re looking for, takes a different kind of approach. Which is probably why I was intrigued by the Noom Coach weight loss program.

Attacking issues not only at the physical level, but at the mental is something many fail to realize about themselves. So it is something worth taking a look at if you’ve tried other weight loss programs without much success.

Weight watchers has been in the game a long time and understands what it takes to help you get results. So when deciding between Noom Coach vs Weight Watchers, know that both programs have the tools to increase your chance of success.

Getting results will come down to understanding your weakness, mental or physical, and choosing which program is best equipped to handle that.

Mayo Clinic Diet vs Weight Watchers – Best Weight Loss Program

Which Weight Loss Program Gets You The Best Results?

When it comes to losing weight, sometimes diet and exercise just isn’t enough. Some people need that extra guidance whether it be from a specialist or a group of people going through the same struggle.

Weight loss programs are a great way to get this type of guidance and hopefully reach your goal of healthy living.

Two of the more popular programs many look to are Mayo Clinic Diet vs Weight Watchers. Both have a great system in place to help those that struggle with weight loss and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

So maybe you’re trying to figure out which program will help you finally get the results you’re looking for.

We know that the goal for both programs is to help you lose weight, but what separates the two? As you continue to read, I plan on answering that question.

By not only giving you details about them, but also helping you understand what it takes to not only lose weight, but maintain it as well.

Key Differences Between Both Weight Loss Programs

One of the more obvious differences users of each program will notice is how each program goes about counting calories.

And since calories is the main factor in the amount of weight we gain on a week to week basis, many search to find ways to make calorie counting easy.

With the mayo clinic diet plan, each food you choose to eat is a assigned a nutritional value. So you know exactly how much calories will be consumed for that particular food.

With the weight watchers program, each food item is assigned “SmartPoints” which can make calorie counting super easy for users.

Basically healthy foods will have a lower number than unhealthy foods. So it’s important to keep your number as low as possible with this system.

It’s also important to note that weight watchers has implemented a new program called the freestyle program where some foods are worth zero points.

Many have complained about this new system as it has caused them to gain more weight. There’s a reason for this in which I will explain in further detail in my quick review.

For now, its important to understand that each program uses a different approach in how they count calories for user.

Which Program Offers Better Support

Mayo Clinic – the great thing about the mayo clinic diet is that you are part of a system that was created by medical experts. As a member you get access to these professionals all from your phone.

They provide you with newsletters with healthy tips and advice. Pretty much all the support you get will be through their online platform.

So for those that are looking for an actual voice to help guide them through their weight loss journey, you may not find that with this program.

Weight Watchers – when it comes to support, the weight watchers program provides a good amount of it. They provide you with 24/7 online chat along with access to their community of other members looking to lose weight.

And if you feel you need a more personal touch where actual conversation is happening, there are also weekly group meetings for you to go to. Of course access to this is dependent on which membership you choose. Something I will be going over soon.

Advantage – Weight Watchers

Flexibility of Both Programs

Mayo Clinic – because this program uses the food pyramid as a guide as to what you should be eating, you get to choose what you want to eat. Just make sure they are healthy choices of course.

Making sure your diet is well balanced will be key to you getting the best results. But if for some reason you don’t find yourself eating all the foods suggested, it’s ok as long as they are healthy.

Weight Watchers – this program uses points as a guide for how you choose your meals. The healthier the food item, the lower the points that are towards your smartpoints goal.

With their system, you are allowed the flexibility to eat what you like, but it’s up to you make sure you hit your points goal.

So it’s almost like a budget system where you’re in charge of how you manage it. So if you’re looking to eat unhealthy, just know that there is a price to pay for it.

Advantage – Tie

Which Program Is Easier To Use?

Mayo Clinic – as i mentioned earlier, most of what you will be doing with this weight loss program will be online using your phone or computer. The Mayo Clinic uses a habit tracker to help you keep track of both your diet and exercise.

This habit tracker is managed through your cell phone where you will be recording everything you eat and do. You can also get access to detailed information to help you stay up-to-date with important weight loss information.

When it comes to meal and fitness plans, you get access to a variety of recipes, portion control guides, personalized workouts and fitness tips. All of this will help make sure you are doing the right things to get the best results.

Weight Watchers – there are 3 different options for you to choose when it comes to your weight loss needs. They have an online, meetings, and coaching options that give you access to different things.

For those that choose just the online option, you can track everything from the food you eat to the type of activities you perform throughout the day.

If you feel the need to meet others and discuss how you’re progressing with the program, the meeting option allows you to attend live group meetings.

For those that prefer 1 on 1 coaching, you can choose this option as well. Whichever method you feel will best help you be successful with your weight loss is totally up to you.

Advantage – Weight Watchers

Cost of Each Program

Mayo Clinic – when signing up to the program, you get full access to everything the mayo clinic program has to offer. It is a 13 week subscription where you will be charged $52 for the quarter.

This covers the 13 weeks and comes out to about $4 per week. Do keep in mind that your subscription auto renews, so if you need to cancel your subscription, do it before your current subscription period is up.

Weight Watchers – this program offers three different packages:

  • Online Plus  – $3.22/week
  • Meetings – $7.27/week
  • Coaching – $12.69/week

Depending on which option you choose, you will have access to certain parts of their weight loss program. So you can expect to pay anywhere from $12 – $50 per month.

The good thing about this program is that it is month to month. So you can pretty much cancel at anytime once that month is over.

Advantage – Tie

Mayo Clinic: A Quick Review

PROS

  • Program is designed by medical experts that know what it takes to lose weight
  • Not a quick fix diet like the fad diets out there
  • Provides you with helpful tools that guide you towards long term results
  • Customized programs that fit your personal needs
  • Support group to keep you motivated when things get tough
  • Makes sure you stay engaged using technology

CONS

  • Many of the tools provided can be found online for free
  • Information provided may be things you already knew when it comes to weight loss

Most people would tell you that they know they need to eat healthier and exercise more, but the problem is knowing how to go about it.

Think about it, access to the gym and healthy foods is readily available to anyone who needs it, and yet many still struggle with being overweight.

The mayo clinic diet starts you off with a 2 week jump start plan called the “Lose It” phase. This phase is designed to help you safely lose 6-10 pounds in first 14 days of starting the program.

I’m usually cautious when it comes to any program claiming they can help you lose x amount of weight in a short period of time.

But the goal during this phase is to help you learn how to develop good habits, and break the bad habits that you struggle with on a daily basis. Which is very important if you plan on having long term success with this.

When you’re done with this phase, you can move on to phase 2, which is call The “Live It” phase. Where the goal is to have you lose 1-2 pounds each week, which is considered a healthy way to lose weight.

With the use of tools and personalized diet and exercise plans, everything you need is organized for you to help you succeed…Read Full Review

Weight Watchers: A Quick Review

PROS

  • Can track food and activity with the weight watcher app
  • Uses a point system that makes counting calories very simple
  • Weekly group meetings available to members
  • Can connect with other members for support 24/7
  • Weekly private weigh ins for accountability
  • Dedicated coach along with 1 on 1 phone sessions
  • Get personalized action plans to fit your needs
  • Receive guides and printed materials

CONS

  • Many complaints about the changing of the point system to freestyle system
  • Concern over long term success of weight loss program
  • Some users have issue with “Zero points food”

When it comes to weight loss, weight watchers is one of the most popular programs out there. Their track record alone suggests they know what it takes to help you lose weight.

Many understand that managing your calorie intake is key to finding success with weight loss, but many have trouble with it.

With the weight watcher smartpoint tracker, they pretty much count the calories for you. The way it works is, the healthier the food is, the lower the points. The unhealthy the food is, the higher the points are.

So your goal is to minimize your point total as much as possible. Many have found success with this system because it works almost as a budget.

The issue some are having with this system was that even though people were able to find success managing their calories, some questioned still how healthy the program was for its users.

Because we all know that not all weight loss is considered healthy. And the fact that you could eat whatever you wanted as long as you stayed within your smartpoints budget, there were still concerns about it.

But weight watchers changed their system and now call it the “Freestyle Program” where it incentivized you to eat healthier foods by giving them zero points.

The issue many were having was that they would eat the so call “zero point foods” and were finding themselves either maintaining or gaining weight.

That’s because no matter how healthy you eat, if you consume more calories than you burn, you will eventually gain weight.

Which is why exercise is so important when it comes to any weight loss program.

Final Thoughts

Losing weight comes down to burning more calories than you consume. And although eating healthy can help you achieve that weight loss goal, exercise is also needed to maintain it.

Many have complained about the new weight watcher because they are finding themselves actually gaining weight. But the reason for that is their zero point system which which incentivizes you to eat healthier food.

But losing weight can be tricky if you’re not adding exercise to your regiment. Because the more active you are, the more calories your body will burn.

So when comparing the mayo clinic diet vs weight watchers, both provide you with a good system to help you lose weight. Both are easy to use and provide you with the tools necessary.

It’s important to understand that although weight loss may be important to you, being healthy physically is important as well. So making sure you exercise and maintain a healthy diet will be key.

Concept2 Model D vs Waterrower – Best Rowing Machine

Concept2 Model D vs Waterrower – Best Rowing Machine

Which Row Machine Set Gets You The Best Results?

When it comes to getting in shape, we can all agree that there are many ways to get the job done. One of those ways in particular is rowing. Unfortunately we all don’t have a boat that we can just take down the river and get a good workout in.

Which is what makes home rowing machines so popular. But for many, finding a rowing machine that you’re comfortable working out with is key.

In today’s market, two rowing machines that tend to be very popular to many is the concept2 vs the waterrower. Although these two machines use the same motion, both provide a very different type of feel when performing the actual rowing motion.

Below I plan on breaking down what makes each rowing machine different, and how either machine can give you a great workout.

Where you will be working out the entire body with very little impact on your joints.

Key Differences Between Both Rowing Machines

One of the obvious differences between both machines is the type of resistance you will feel as you perform each rowing motion. Also, the type of material each exercise machine is made out of.

But when it comes to the resistance aspect of it, the concept2 uses air as a way to intensify your exercise as you row.

With the waterrower, the form of resistance is brought to you using actual water. Which is obviously considered a more natural feel when rowing.

Even though there are obvious differences in the type of resistance in both machines, there are other differences users may want to be aware of.

So below I plan on answering some common questions many users have when it comes to deciding which rowing machine will work best for daily exercise.

Which Machine Offers a Quieter Ride?

Concept2 – using air as a form of resistance, you would think that there wouldn’t be that much noise when performing the rowing motion. But with the concept2, some may find it a bit loud.

Now it’s nothing too crazy that will interrupt others that may be in the home, but you may have to turn up the volume on your tv if you are someone that likes to be entertained while exercising.

Waterrower – as the name suggest, the waterrower uses water as form of resistance. As you perform each rowing motion, you will hear a swooshing sound. Almost as if you were out in the ocean rowing an actual boat.

For many, this sound can be very therapeutic while exercising. Even if you are someone that watches tv during your exercise, you should have very little issue with noise using a waterrower machine.

Advantage – Waterrower

Which Machine Gives You a More Natural Rowing Feel?

Concept2 – considered to be very smooth and not overly noisy, the feeling you get when rowing is comfortable. This machine uses a chain as a mechanism to help build up that resistance as you row.

Used by athletes for competitive training, the concept2 two is able to give you one of the most natural rowing feels to help you get in shape.

Waterrower – if you’re looking for a way to replicate a particular activity like rowing, it only makes sense to use as many elements as possible that help you replicate the actual activity.

So when it comes to a rowing machine, using water as a form of resistance is a great way to replicate the actual rowing motion. Not only do you get the motion, but the sound as well.

Advantage – Tie

Which Machine Is Easier To Install?

Concept2 – with this rowing machine being as long as it is, the thought of having to put it together can discourage anyone from thinking about even buying it.

You want to be able to receive and jump right into your workout. The great thing about the concept2 is that it comes with easy installation with only 8 screws needing to be adjusted.

Waterrower – although not extremely difficult, the waterrower does come in pieces which may make it difficult for those that don’t consider themselves very handy.

Many have mentioned that putting it together is doable, but if assembly is one of your sticking points for choosing which machine to go with, the waterrower may be at a disadvantage.

Advantage – Concept2

Which Machine Offers Easy Storage In The Home?

Concept2 – the machine can be separated into two pieces allowing for easy storage. And with its framelock mechanism, there are no tools needed to separate the machine. It also comes with wheels allowing for easy mobility when storing.

And for those that don’t feel like wasting time breaking apart the machine for storing, it can also be stood upright as well. Along with the wheels to reduce any strain when moving.

Waterrower – unfortunately this machine doesn’t allow you to break it apart, but you are able to stand the machine upright.

This will ensure that it takes up minimal space within your home. There are also wheels at the bottom when in upright mode, allowing for easy mobility throughout your home.

Advantage – Concept2

Concept2 Model D: A Quick Review

PROS

  • Built solid allowing for an effective and comfortable row
  • Very smooth and makes very little if any noise while using the machine
  • Doesn’t take up much space since it can be separated for easy storage
  • Can compete with other users with 3rd party software (may be sold separately)
  • Saves time from having to go to the gym
  • Easy to assemble
  • Maximum user weight capacity of 500lbs
  • Comes with a 5 year warranty

CONS

  • Many question the effectiveness of air resistance rowing machines compared to others
  • Feel that magnetic is much quieter than air machines
  • Cost may be considered a bit much for some

Considered the standard when it comes to rowing machines, the concept2 is widely used by athletes involved in competitive training around the world.

Regardless if you plan on using this machine in your fitness facility or your home gym, the versatility of this machine is what makes it so worth it.

With its performance 5 monitor, you can accurately track your data while your exercising on the machine. You also get bluetooth to connect all your favorite devices to make tracking your data simple.

Its sturdy design gives you the comfort that it will last a while, yet still offers a smooth feel while you ride. Using an air-resistance flywheel, the faster you pull, the more resistance you will feel as you row.

And for those concerned about storing due to its length, know that you can separate the machine into two parts, making for easy storage. It also comes with wheels to allow for easy transportation around your home…Read Full Review

  • Series 4 performance monitor to track your progress
  • Aesthetically pleasing to fit in almost anywhere in your home

I bet if you asked any former rower what they missed most about competitive rowing, i’m sure they would say the sound of their paddle flowing through the water.

Although the waterrower isn’t the exact same thing, it’s the closest thing to it. This is made possible with the water resistance flywheel.

This machine helps replicate that feeling you get in an actual row boat, but without having the water splashing in your face.

The waterrower has a very unique design compared to other row machines out there. Its wood oak construction absorbs sound and vibration making for a very quiet workout.

Powerblock Dumbells vs Bowflex Dumbbells – Best Adjustable Dumbbell

Which Dumbbell Set Gets You The Best Results?

For those that go to the gym, having access to a variety of equipment makes getting in shape really convenient. But for those that have their own home gym, trying to match all that equipment can get both clunky and expensive.

One piece of equipment in particular are dumbbells. I’m sure we can all agree that there is no need for multiple dumbbells in your home. Which is what makes adjustable dumbbells so popular.

Powerblock vs Bowflex Dumbbells…

…two of the most popular sets of adjustable dumbbells on the market today. But which one will provide for you the convenience that is needed when it comes to working out at home?

Below I will be breaking down what separates the two dumbbells, and which one would be best for your fitness needs.

Powerblock Dumbbells vs Bowflex Dumbbells Comparison

Because there are various models for both dumbbell brands, in my comparisons going forward, I will be discussing two of the more popular dumbbells from each brand.

That would be the Powerblock Elite and the Bowflex Selecttech 552. Although there’s little difference in other models from these brands, it does help with any confusion when going through my comparisons.

Key Differences Between Both Dumbbell Sets

One of the main purposes of adjustable dumbbells is convenience. Being able to quickly get through a set of exercises makes your workout both quick and effective.

So when comparing both of these dumbbells, one of the main differences many users will notice is the method in which you can adjust the weight amount.

With many of the powerblock dumbbells, you will notice they use a selector pin. By pulling the pin out, you can adjust the weight amount quickly. Saving you a lot of time when performing a particular exercise.

With any bowflex dumbbell set, they use a dial system with the weight amount labeled on the side of it. Many will find the dial very efficient when it comes to changing the weight amount.

Which Dumbbell Allows You To Adjust Weights Quicker?

Powerblock Elite – this adjustable dumbbell set uses a selector that allows you to quickly adjust your weight amount as you workout. There’s also a color coded panel where you can identify which weight amount you want. All you have to do is pull the pin out, and quickly place it in the open slot that matches the color coded weight panel.

Bowflex Selecttech – uses a dial which are placed on both sides of the dumbbells allowing you to quickly adjust the weight amount. The dials also has numbers with the weight amount so you’re able to quickly identify the amount of weight you need to workout with. So with basically just a turn of the dial, getting through each set has never been easier.

Advantage – Bowflex

Which Is More Comfortable To Use?

Powerblock Elite – has a block like design which gives you a more compact lift when working out. Also, because of its flat ends, it can easily be placed on your legs before lifting off.

Many have complained about not being able to fit their hands to reach the handles. So if you’re someone with large hands, you may find that part a bit annoying.

Bowflex Selecttech – looks like your standard dumbbells you find at the gym especially when it comes to holding it. But the very wide base can feel a bit awkward when in the lifting motion.

Doesn’t place on the legs as easily as you would like, but well enough to get through a workout. Not a big concern, but some may find it a bit annoying when getting ready to lift off.

Advantage – Tie

Which Has a Higher Weight Maximum?

Powerblock Elite – the maximum weight for this particular dumbbell is 50 pounds, but there is an expansion pack that allows you to increase it to 50-70 lbs.

However I have heard that the expansion pack can get stuck at times which could be an inconvenience to your workout.

The powerblock also has a 90 pound set of dumbbells that you could purchase for a couple of hundred bucks more. So if you’re a heavy lifter and are looking for massive gains, that option is available.

Bowflex – this particular set of dumbbells has a maximum weight of 52.5 pounds, and doesn’t have any expansion pack to increase the weight.

The bowflex does have the 1090 model that has a maximum weight of 90 pounds, but it only comes as a single. Each dumbbell costs about $250, so you can expect to pay at least $500 to get a pair.

When looking at the prices of getting a pair for both dumbbells, the bowflex was cheaper. But if you chose to go with the expansion kit for the powerblock, you would be saving more money.

Advantage – Bowflex

  • Durable for those concerned about wear and tear
  • Can increase weight up to 90 lbs with expansion kit
  • Can increase weight in increments of 2.5
  • 10 year home use warranty
  • Made in the USA

CONS

  • Plates tend to stick together when changing weights
  • Can be uncomfortable for those with large hands

When you think about dumbbells, you usually expect it to be handlebars with rounded plates attached at both ends. But with the powerblock elite, instead of round plates, you get squared plates.

Although different, it does make placing them on your legs before liftoff a bit easier. This set of dumbbells uses a selector pin to allow you to quickly adjust the weights to your liking.

Each weighted plate is color coded so you know exactly which weight amount you want. The one issue some may have is fitting your hands where the handlebar is located. This will be an issue especially for those with larger sized hands.

Also, the maximum weight amount goes up to 50 pounds, but can be increased up to 90 lbs with an expansion kit…Read Full Review

Not only that, but you’re getting a durable piece of equipment that you should expect to last a while. If there was one issue I had with bowflex, it would be the maximum weight amount. The 552 model can only go up to 52.5 pounds.

So for those that like to lift really heavy, this would not be enough to satisfy your workout. You would then have to go with the selecttech 1090 model which has a maximum of 90 pounds. The only issue is that it comes as a single.
