Everyone is familiar with the beachbody brand, and is very aware of what it can do as far as body transformation goes. But when it comes to weight loss, finding the best beachbody workouts for weight loss can be a bit tricky with their large library of workouts to choose from.
Losing weight is about burning more calories than you consume. The more intense your workout is, the more calories you will burn during that workout. So you want to shoot for a workout program that is about 45-60 minutes long and is intense.
So if you’re unsure of which beachbody workout will give you the best chance to get results, below I will provide you with a list. Below you will find some of the best programs beachbody has to offer in terms of variety and effectiveness.
For those that are new to exercise and want to try out some of the workouts beachbody has to offer, just keep in mind that many of these workouts are pretty intense. Recently I wrote an article about the best beachbody workouts for beginners.
I would recommend taking a look there before jumping into the more advanced workouts. But if you’re determined to push yourself, then you’re more than welcomed to choose from the list I provide below.
80 Day Obsession
Here is a new program instructed by one of beachbody’s best trainers, Autumn Calabrese. Not only is this workout designed to help you lose weight, but also burn fat and build nice lean muscles.
So if you’re someone that is bored with their current workout routine, then I would highly recommend trying out this workout. The reason I say this is because with this program, everyday is a different type of workout.
You get a different workout everyday for 80 days. On top of the that, you also get a meal plan that is designed to feed your body with the correct meal portion to maximize results. Basically a complete guide to helping you build a better body.
One of the most important factors when it comes to getting in shape are the tools. And with beachbody, you are given some pretty cool tools to make sure you’re successful. Some of those tools include:
- A starter guide
- Workout calendar
- Eating plan
- Tracker sheet
- Support videos
These tools should help keep you organized while pushing through this intense workout. Also each workout is anywhere from 30-60 minutes long, with most workouts being at least 45 minutes long. This will make sure that you’re able to burn the most amount of calories possible.
Some things you will need in order to perform this workout are:
- Dumbbell weights (light, medium, or heavy depending on fitness level)
- Beachbody resistance loops
- Beachbody strength slides
- Beachbody portion control containers
- Mat for comfort
80 days is a bit intense, but is very necessary for the long term success of your health. Not only will this program be motivating, but it will guide you to healthier habits in the long run. So don’t be afraid to challenge yourself mentally and physically with this workout.
Core De Force
Fighting type exercises are becoming a huge trend in today’s fitness world. More and more people are looking for workouts that involve either boxing, or kickboxing as a way to get in shape. So if that’s what you’re looking for, then core de force may be for you.
The only difference is that you won’t have an actual bag to punch and kick with. So if that’s cool with you, then you should have no issues getting in shape with this workout. This workout uses more mixed martial arts type moves rather than boxing though.
But the great thing about that is you will be training the entire body, which is very effective for burning the most amount of calories. And like I said earlier, the more calories you burn, the more weight you lose.
This program is 30 days long and each workout is about 47 minutes. And for those that are not looking to spend additional money on other equipment, this workout uses just the body weight as a form of resistance.
The workouts are formatted like an actual competition where there are rounds. You get 3 minutes for each set of workouts which brings a bit of uniqueness while you train…Read More
One of the most effective ways to lose weight is by combining both cardio training and resistance training. And one of the best forms of resistance training is weight lifting. So if you’re looking to build some serious muscle mass, body beast is a good program to choose.
This program is for 90 days and each workout is about 53 minutes long. So you can expect to get into some pretty hardcore weight lifting to help you build out the nice lean body.
And for the females that tend to get a little intimidated when it comes to building muscle, well I’m here to tell you no need to worry. Although this program is designed to help you build nice lean muscle, there’s no need to worry about getting bulky.
A big reason for that is the female body doesn’t produce enough testosterone to build large muscles. Even if you tried, you would have a hard time developing the muscle mass the male body is capable of producing.
Unless you were taking some type of chemicals of course. And worst case scenario, you could always dial it back if you find yourself getting too big for your liking, or ditch the program all together.
The Master’s Hammer and Chisel
For the females that feel that body beast seemed catered too much for the guys, here’s a program that has some female appeal. With Autumn Calabrese as one of the instructors, you can get the female perspective of how to build lean muscles.
This is a 60 day program where each workout is about 40 minutes long. You will be performing exercises that are designed to target the largest muscles in your body. Which will help you efficiently burn the most amount of calories during and after your workout.
Because the focus of the workout is to build muscle, you will need some form of resistance. So expect there to be weights involved in each workout. The actual weight will depend on your fitness level of course.
I would suggest maybe purchasing a set of adjustable dumbbells so that you can quickly go in and out of each exercise. This will help you avoid all the clutter that comes with purchasing a bunch of dumbbell sets.
If you’re familiar with the P90X program, then you know how hardcore that workout can be. Unlike that program which is geared towards helping you build muscle, this second version is geared more towards building your stabilizer muscles.
With a focus more on stability, you will be performing exercises on an unstable platform, forcing you to engage more muscles. Not only will this help with any muscular imbalances you may have, but also help prevent common injuries people get from performing normal movements.
This program is 90 days long with each workout being no more than 60 minutes. If you’re wondering what type of equipment you will need to perform this workout, weights is definitely on the list. Along with other things like:
- Dumbbells or Resistance bands
- Pull up bar or door attachment for your bands
- Yoga mat
- Stability or medicine balls
- Plyo mat, yoga blocks, and push up stands are optional
For that last one, although you can complete the exercise without any of them, to get the full effect, you will.
For those concerned about the effectiveness of this type of workout, here’s what I would take away from it. A lot of common injuries we see today in places like the knees and shoulders, can somewhat be linked to lack of joint stability.
So this type of training is crucial to making sure you strengthen that area, at the same time burn off some calories. After the 90 days, you will notice performing common movements around the house not as difficult as before…Read More
Insanity Asylum Vol 1 & 2
The insanity workout is no doubt one of the most intense programs available for beachbody. It was so effective, that they created a volume 1 and 2 for those that were looking to increase the intensity.
If you’ve never tried this workout before, I would suggest starting off with Insanity, then moving yourself up the ladder as you improve your fitness level. Granted all are considered very advanced when it comes to fitness level.
The original program is 60 days with each workout being 60 minutes long. Compared to the volume 1 and 2 only being 30 days long, but still 60 minutes for each workout. So the original is a bit longer, but all pretty much have the same type of intensity.
Like with most of Shaun T’s workout programs, you will be using your body as the main source of resistance. This is great for those who aren’t into buying all the fancy equipment that come with a lot of workout programs.
These workouts are primarily cardio based, so you can expect to move every part of your body to burn off those calories…Read More
If you’re looking for a really intense workout program that gets the heart pumping, then you might want to check out turbo fire. This workout uses HIIT training to help you burn that fat and build the necessary endurance to live a healthy life.
Not only that, but being able to burn calories both during your workout and after your workout is one of the most effective ways to reach your goals. And with this program, you get just that due to the intensity of the workout.
What I really like about this workout are all the things that is done leading up to the actual workout. Like taking before and after photos so that you can get a visual of your progress. Watch a starter class video to learn the all the moves.
They even have challenges where you can win prizes. These are all things that can help give you motivation to push yourself when things get tough.
And we all know that there’s no better motivator than using cash as an incentive. Which has been known to be highly effective when it comes to weight loss.
This program is 90 days and is up to 55 minutes long for each workout. There are no equipment needed to perform this workout. The only form of resistance you will face is your own body. But don’t expect it to be any easier.
When it comes to building muscle, one of the biggest fears for women is getting too bulky and looking like a guy. And although that may be the case for some, more women are starting to understand that building muscle is good for better health overall.
The great thing about this workout is that you’re getting the perspective on how to build lean muscle from a women. Someone that understands the emotional block many women deal with when it comes to building muscle.
The fact that developing muscle can help you burn calories even if you’re not working out. This is great for burning fat as your body is constantly working to help feed your muscles with the proper nutrients to stay lean. By speeding up your metabolism.
The program length of this workout is 90 days and each workout is anywhere from 30-45 minutes long. Expect to perform many exercises using weights and bands as a form of resistance.
They do recommend using the bowflex selecttech dumbbells which will allow you to quickly adjust the weight amount. This is just one of the many forms of adjustable dumbbells you can use to perform this workout.
The first workout program I ever tried with beachbody was P90X. I didn’t have a gym membership at the time and was looking for a way to build muscle. So I tried this workout and all I can remember is the intensity that came with it.
If you’re familiar with Tony Horton, then you already know he’s one of the top trainers with beachbody. Not only is he one of the top trainers there, but the man seems to never age being someone that is pushing 60.
But when it comes to motivating you to get into shape, he’s one of the best to get that done. With this workout, his focus is to help you lose weight by building lean muscle.
This is a 90 day program with each workout lasting 45-60 minutes long. You will be using both bodyweight training and weight training as a form of resistance for each workout. Some of the equipment that is recommended for this workout are:
- Chin up/Push up bar
- Beachbody jump mat
- Protein powder
As someone that has tried this workout, you can perform a lot of these exercises without a lot of equipment. Although I would recommend getting a mat and either dumbbells or resistance bands to do the bicep curls. Other than that, you should be good…Read More
21 Day Fix Extreme
For those that have tried the original 21 day fix program, this is a more advanced version of it. You still get the meal plan that is crucial to getting the best results, but you should expect your workouts to be a bit more extreme.
Still using a combination of cardio, yoga and pilates to help get you in shape, this extreme version has incorporated some resistance training. Which for me is great as I believe combining both resistance training and cardio training is the most efficient way to lose weight and burn fat.
As the name suggests, the program is for 21 days and each workout is 30 minutes longs. Since it’s only 30 minutes, you can expect it to be pretty intense and almost nonstop. This will ensure that your heart rate is constantly up helping you burn the most amount of fat.
Things To Consider When Choosing The Best Workout For You
When deciding which workout program will get you the best results, it’s important to first understand the different type of training methods. Some are better at burning calories than others, and some are better at burning fat than others.
Cardio Training – the great thing about cardio training is the amount of calories that can be burned while working out. Whether it’s running or bike riding, if you’re looking to burn the most amount of calories in a given workout, cardio training is the way to go.
The one negative about cardio training is that too much of it can break down muscle mass. So if you’re looking to get nice lean muscles, it would be hard to do just doing cardio alone.
Resistance Training – this type of training could also involve bodyweight exercises, but for now, I will mainly speak about resistance training that involves lifting weights. Weight training is great for building muscle and helping speed up your metabolism.
And although you don’t burn as much calories as you would doing cardio, the great thing about weight training is that you burn calories both during and after your training. This is considered very effective for burning fat and helping sculpt your body.
Bodyweight Training – this form of training could be used for both resistance and cardio training. So depending on the type of workout, you could burn a good amount of calories while building up your muscles.
For those that suffer from joint pain and are afraid of risking injuries with weights, bodyweight exercisesare a great way to get in shape. Just keep in mind that when it comes to building muscle, you are somewhat limited in the amount that can be built.
