As someone that goes to the gym 5 days a week, I feel for those that strongly believe that the gym just isn’t for them. Whether it be because of the large crowds or not really knowing what to do while you’re there, the motivation just isn’t there for you.
Which makes programs like beachbody such a popular choice for those that prefer to workout in the comfort of their own home.
But which workout is right for you?
Well I’ve been checking out this new program called Beachbody 80 Day obsession. It’s one of hundreds of workouts that beachbody has to offer. It was recently released and has been picking up a lot of traction from users of beachbody.
So if you’re interested in learning more about this workout, I will be breaking everything down below. Going over things like what you should expect and how you should prepare before taking on the challenge of this 80 day program.
What To Expect With 80 Day Obsession
When it comes to getting in shape, one of the most overlooked aspect is the type of system used to get in shape. Which is what makes this system so unique. You get a complete system with tools to help you get in the best shape possible.
Below are some of the tools in which I will get into in greater detail:
- Starter Guide
- Workout Calendar
- Eating Plan
- Tracker Sheet

Meet Your Trainer
Meet Your Trainer
This workout program is lead by Autumn Calabrese who has many years of experience when it comes to getting people in shape.
Having Autumn as an instructor will be helpful especially since this program uses weight training as a method to get results.
This is important since many women are afraid of weight training due to fear of bulking up too much like a guy.
She’s the perfect person to model after when trying to learn what it takes to get in the best shape possible.
Recommended Fitness Level
Unfortunately this workout is not for beginners, so it helps if you have some sort of experience before making an attempt.
And although Autumn provides modifications for those that may struggle with a particular exercise, she doesn’t decrease the intensity.
The great thing about this program is that they have an introductory workout called “a little obsessed.”
It’s a 5 day course to help those wanting to start this workout, build their body up for the real thing. So I would recommend starting there first.
This is an 80 day program where each workout can last anywhere from 30-60 minutes long, with the majority of the workouts being 45-60 minutes long.
Expect to workout 6 days a week, giving you that one day to rest your body for recovery. I think one of the best thing about this program is that each day you get something new.
80 days means 80 different workouts to help keep you motivated and entertained. This is especially helpful for those that get bored easily doing the same fitness routine.
This program uses a timed-nutrition program to complement your workout.
This will help you with things like recovery from the intense workouts, maintenance of metabolism, and energy levels.
Timing your nutrition properly is crucial to how your body breaks down what you are feeding it. Therefore maximizing the results you’re looking for.
Whether you’re using a scale, tape measure, or photo, knowing if you’re getting results would be a bit difficult if you’re weren’t able to track it.
So with the 80 day obsession tracker sheets, you will be able to track your progress every step of the way.
This will help you get a better understanding of what kind of progress you’re making without having to rely primarily on the scale.
So definitely make sure you are recording all you accomplishments correctly.
Home Workout vs Going To The Gym
When deciding on what is the best way for you to to get in shape, the first thing you want to do is figure out the best place to perform your workouts.
With so many people struggling with their health, gyms have become very accessible. The problem though is that not everyone is motivated to go.
Let’s be honest, you probably know a couple of people including yourself that has a gym membership but rarely ever go.
It’s probably more of collectors item rather than an actual tool to scan yourself in. so that’s why it’s important to find your place of comfort where you know you’ll be motivated to get in shape.
When it comes to comparing working out at home to the gym, here are a few things you must keep in mind:
- Personal Trainer
Equipment – the great thing about the gym is that you have access to a lot of different fitness equipment. Whether you’re looking to build muscle or just get in a good cardio workout, you have many tools to get the job done.
No need to worry about spending a lot of money because with your membership, you have every tool at your disposal.
When working out at home, you have to make sure you have all the necessary tools to get in an effective workout. For some, this could cost a lot of money in the beginning, but could end up saving you money in the long run.
You also don’t have to worry about anyone occupying a particular machine which will cost you time.
Motivation – we can all agree that one of the biggest reasons many people struggle with getting in shape is due to lack of motivation. It could be the tiniest thing like bad weather, and that’s enough to discourage someone from working out.
Working out at the gym can be a good thing for motivation since you have to get yourself up to actual go workout. Also, seeing other people workout can also motivate you while you’re there.
At the same time, it can be a place to lose motivation all together since there’s noone there to hold you accountable. It’s not like the staff will call you if you haven’t been there for over a month. Which is why you see so many people with memberships that go unused.
When it comes to working out at home, it can be both a place of great motivation, or the complete opposite. The great thing about working out at home is the comfort you feel from knowing your surroundings.
Not having to worry about others being on your machine or catching any sickness from others that may have used it.
However, it’s important to make sure you motivate yourself to get up and actually workout. Being home has a strange way of making you lazy since it’s a place of comfort.
Time – we all live pretty busy lives so being able to find time will be key to deciding where you perform your workouts.
Although the gym has everything you need in terms of equipment, depending on the time you go, it can be a big time waster.
You have to worry about other people using your machine or people you know chatting with you while you’re there. This could be huge time waster especially if you are someone that likes to get in and get out.
Working from the comfort of your very own home can save you a lot of time. Everything you need is within your grasp and no need to worry about anyone occupying your space.
This could make for a very efficient workout. So if you are someone that travels a lot, or has the duty of watching children, being able to workout at home gives you the time you need to get a lot done.
Personal Trainers – getting in shape can be difficult especially if you have no idea how to get started. The great thing about the gym is that they have professional trainers that can assist you with that.
Regardless of your fitness goals, personal trainers can customize a plan for your fitness needs. Not only that, but some consider trainers as a form of therapy because of the very close relationship that can formed from each interaction.
This type of training can be valuable when it comes to living a healthier lifestyle.
Unfortunately for home workouts, you don’t get that personal touch of the trainer. More than likely the instructor is on your tv doing their best to motivate you.
Now for some this is all the motivation that is needed which is great. But for others, being able to have a conversation is equally as important.
But remember, having a trainer can come at a cost, which I will discuss next.
Cost – depending on your budget, the cost of getting in shape will be a huge factor in deciding which is best for you.
So when it comes to the gym, you can expect to pay anywhere from $10 – $100 for a gym membership. Of course the cost will depend on where you live and the type of gym.
But if you break it down year, it will cost you about $120 to $1200 a year. Of course this isn’t bank breaking money where talking about, but if you factor in the cost of trainers, then it can definitely be out of your budget range.
but each person determines what their health is worth to them differently. Making sure you understand the cost will be key to choosing what’s best for you.
When exercising at home, once you buy the fitness equipment, you make a one time payment and it is yours forever. Also, more than likely you will working out to a workout video which can be consumed in DVD form or streaming.
Services like beachbody on demand will cost you $99 for the year, and you get access to over 600 workout programs. Which is far less than having a gym membership.
